Title: Gonna smoke a few cells......
Post by raydawg on 04/26/14 at 07:26:42

I am talking brain cells  :o

Next weekend I will tear into the gal and do all my own work. Got a Versy on its way, all the filters are already here from bike bandit, with extra screws, springs, etc. Will check my valves and adjust if needed, never done it before, but I have always wanted to.
I will have to get it done right for it will have to carry my butt to work on Monday....
I love the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" which has served my laziness well.
If it broke, I had a good excuse to tell the wife I need a new one.....
But I dunno, something inside me has changed, I don't want a new one, I want this one!
I do get that mindset where I pick on her shortcomings, toying with idea I need more bike, but fact is, I don't, this bike fits its need in my life like my speedos I wear in Waikiki.......  :-[

So, I will be hitting the tech section and studying but if you can share any tips in the mean time, I would, and I know the gal would for sure, greatly appreciate it   ;D

Thanks!

Site prep. I always sweep up before I start something,so if something hits the floor my eyes dont have to filter thru crud to spot the thing I dropped.
For valves, some guys buy a special tool. I just take the blades Im gonna use outta the feeler gauge pack & roll a kind of Ski Tip into the end & then bend the thing into a Z shape so I can run it down in there.
A magnet is handy if ya fumble it,,
90* bent screwdriver with the philips end ground to a flat end & 90* to the other flat end, 10 MM end wrench & a bucket load of patience the first coupla times. It gets easier, like everything else,

Arighty,.. my best advice is,... don't try to shortcut...
When doing the Versy adjuster...  pull the entire exhaust,...get the footpeg and heat shield out of the way...
Don't try to save the oil... drain it...

Any shortcut will cost you time and effort...

..and,.. I would break the job up...
Do the Versy mod and filter changes one weekend... tackle the valve adjustment the next...
That way,.. if anything don't work, it's easier to troubleshoot...
...and, you won't be rushed...

Best luck... ;)....

I'm with Serowbot, break it up. I just did my cam chain tensioner mod tonight and it took a little longer than I thought it would. Things always tend to with me  :D So extra time is always nice.
