Post by Ap5112 on 04/25/14 at 16:39:34

Need to mount a solo seat not sure how to go about it I already cut the seat posts for the bcb kit but I can no longer afford it so I need to go a cheaper route any help would be a big help I can't find any threads on this subject.

Well, its a bit late, but, just to help ya remember if youre ever in a spot like this again, dont make any mods for parts ya dont have yet,,
Now, do ya have a welder? You do still have the parts ya hacked off, right? Nobody ever tosses anything out till a project is finished, right?
If ya dont have a welder, do ya have a torch?

Looks like you gotta get creative. Find a seat you like and a welder and some tubing...

1/8" flat stock welded across the frame horn stubs. Couple of bolt in spring mounting units. 2 springs, cheap solo seat of your choice. Buy the U-bolt style front seat mount, throw the u-bolt to the side, bolt front pivot lug to the factory location, as the holes are perfectly spaced. Call it done.

This old thread shows the parts and such...http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1346085447

Even Easier.....
Go to your local aftermarket Harley shop.Get the seat hinge and the mounting kit.
Bolt it on...DONE.
Like the parts above.

hey guys sorry for the late response but yes my buddy has the welder he will be doing the welding he also has a torch. And as the harley dealer swat hing thing do you have any other pics of that set up? Also I'm going to wanna mount a rear fender and be able to add strong enough supports to mount just a little square seat to it as my girl wants to ride she's tiny so weight isn't a real big issue any ideas on that?

Sounds like he needs to weld the stock parts back on and reinstall the fender and pillio0n seat.

Will any solo seat work with that hing?

Yea, if youre wanting a passenger,, Id find tubing to place down inside the tiny stubs & braze them in, because theyre so short, then slip the bits ya hacked off down on them & weld it up, Since the internal support is so crummy if I had even the slightest doubt about the welders abilities, I would add a wrap to the welded area. Put the old parts back,, bummer, huhh?

Location? I have the stainless steel rear section from an XS 650 rear fender AND a pillion seat off a Rebel that you can have for the cost of shipping, lower 48 only. You'll need to fab up some under fender mounts/struts from 1/8" steel flat bar, drilled to bolt to the frame.

Congrats by the way, irreversibly modifying a motorcycle frame takes guts. Keep at it, what you have there looks fine, and mounting passenger accommodations, even with a cut frame, just takes some tinkering.

Worst case, make it a rigid frame and add a full rear fender, with traditional bracing. $25 for a set of shackle plates at the auto parts store, enlarge 2 holes per to 9/16" inner diameter, bolt them on. Been there, done that before, works fine.

It will take some digging, they could be in the barn, garage, motorhome, Lisa's 95 Outback, the shed, the forge building, the old tag along/bumper pull RV that is falling apart behind the barn, any 1 of 3 different sheds or 3 different deceased trucks, maybe in the Super Beetle... I'm on around 56 acres or so total, stuff gets scattered.

Also have a full fender, heavy fiberglass, made by Cobra to convert a Kawasaki VN1500A dorkmobile rear fender into something useful. THAT one would be expensive...
