Does anybody here have a need for drafting software? This is a very good 2D drafting program that runs just like AutoCad. There are plenty of tutorials available and it is pretty easy to use especially if you had any previous AutoCad CAD experience. It is available for Windows as well as Linux. It is offered by Dassault Systems, the company that makes SolidWorks as well as ProE, etc. I have been using SolidWorks (solid modeling software, available for Windows only) for 12 years but I was needing something for my Linux boot and decided to give DraftSight a try. I previously had experience in AutoCad so it works out quit well.
The learning curve for DraftSight is not bad once you work with it and follow a few tutorials.
Once you know CAD you can lay out almost anything form figuring materials for a suspended ceiling, fence construction to a new addition.

You need to register once a year of course but they don't seem to bother (email spam) you too much

Thanks for the link. I've been looking for a good 2D drawing program that uses .DWG files. I downloaded it tonight and it looks good.

Hi, Thanks for your offer on the 2D Cad software. I have downloaded and quick looked at it, it looked ok. But it was saying only 30 day free trial period. After 30 days of trial, do we have to pay. If not, any watermarks on file or something like that? What happened after 30 days of free trial?
I was trying to say that I've been considering making dwg file for Suzuki Savage motorcycle, a complete Cad file for Savage. I'm looking for any supporters who can help on this big project. Once we have the complete Cad file, it would be a lot easier to modify or any work on Savage bike. Let's say this is investment for future works on Savage. Let me know your response, please.

I'd be looking for 3d software for this project, 2d just wouldn't cut it for me.

If you see any 3d free software, let me know. I don't mind doing it in 3D. But the software need to be free, so we don't have to buy it.
