Title: Seat Question
Post by sailorcolin on 04/22/14 at 08:02:34

I have a 99. It needs a new seat. I like the newer seat designs that are one piece. Will those fit my bike? If not at which year do the seat change fitment, im assuming that the mounts change if they change at all.

They'll swap over. Check the tech section index for the thread on it. Folks have been doing that mod since the S40 replaced the LS650.

Side bolts and front hold down the same.
The 1 piece seats have bolt at the rear.
Whereas the 2 piece have a hook and loop.
not sure if the loop on the fender interferes with the 1 piece seats.
but may be bent down or cut off to accommodate.

I am going more for a look, I like how the newer seats are flatter in the front:

VS mine which has a dip:

The corbin has a big dip! lol:

I recall reading a post a while ago where the guy said the bolt the rear of the new style seat was not really necessary. His fell out, he never replaced it ,never missed it.

I do enjoy the way the stock sportster seat looks. With the rounded passenger section almost cafe like.

I have a newer one piece and I stopped putting the rear allen screw in. It was a pain to get to and it started stripping because of that, so I just left it out. no problems so far. you might put a piece of rubber or something where the metal meets the fender though.

That was probably me. I lost the back bolt and didn't realize it for quite some time.
