Title: It's here... 03 Savage...
Post by WD on 04/07/14 at 23:52:07

Needs some minor tinkering, standard pretrip type stuff.

Ran down to Pine's place, left about 1430 or so from TN, just walked back into my house.

Bike made the trip fine in the back of the Ranger. Still strapped in tight, will go get it plated and registered later today and take it for a shakedown run. Have to give it a good ride to know where to set the bars, levers, etc.

I am going to swap my thin bucket solo front section on. I prefer to sit a bit tighter to the frame unless I'm on a sprung solo.

Tighten or replace a few bolts, change a bulb or two, lube the cables, etc. He took good care of it, and I intend to do the same. Make it fit, keep it simple, commute and go on fun rides. When the 98 is back in service, the 03 will be a commuter (and back up bike for the weekends).

Not cutting this one up like I did the 98. I'll try to get a pic of them together in the next day or so. I'd forgotten how it feels to sit on a close to stock version, and the difference in lines is...  :o

Nice, dude.  It is strange to see and feel a stocker after having a mod'r for so long, isn't it ?

I like the monstrous shut down explosion... But, yeah, I'll swap it out eventually. I don't need another one that is so loud it scares old folks in the next county though...

Gee that pic looks familiar!

So with this I guess I become a FSO... kinda sad. My last ride on it was to go meet WD and let him follow me home.

Do check that oil. Its been in there all winter.

My wife came home early to wish the bike farewell as she has been the one riding it lately.. while I plod along on the Vstar.  I had forgotten how light the Savage was and nearly did a wheelie when I started off. (oh yeah only half the weight) ...

Current plans are uncertain. Short term plans, pay off the Vstar, the new tires, the new rectifier, and the $400 hotel bill in NOLA. The wife wants to travel to the north end of the Natchez Trace. That should tell us if:
A) she likes riding behind me on the big bike
B) she would rather ride on her own bike

If A then we are set... if B then.. who knows. I would like to trade the big bike back down a tad if I am not gonna be toting a rider.

A matching pair of his and her America's would make me all smiles ( I think)

HA! Yep. I bobbed my first one then got a stone stock 2007 with only 2000 miles. I rode it stock for about a week. So far I've done the Lancer carb kit, a Dyna muffler, aftermarket air filter, put a WW II pack on it for a saddle bag and removed the emblems. Once you've tinkered with a bike you can't stop yourself....  :D

Took it on a 20+ mile shakedown run. Got the huge backfire dialed out. Need to change the bars and toss a shield on it. Brakes and cables moving freely, as expected. Set the rear shocks at midway, and seemed about right (I outweigh Pine by, um, a lot)...

Have to ease back into riding, I've been out of the saddle for 3 years...  :o The bike kept trying to run over Doug's 1500 Drifter, just like the 3 "Mikes' Bikes" did at the get together... I'd forgotten how hard these things take off. I kept it in 3rd or 4th and about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle.

Lisa is going to get her endorsement added back to her license. Perfect bike for her to do the test on. And ride around on while her 800 Intruder gets repaired.

My 98 is getting turned into a rigid. Now that I have a running machine, I can get back to enjoying "messing up" the custom project.
