Well,, Thats one Hekkuva step! If they can get jet fuel down to $3.00/gallon ( instead of the 6$ point they mentioned) Then maybe they can find a way to create a fuel good enough to burn to make steam to spin turbines & we can set up generator stations off the coast to power cities. About 60% of Americans live within 100 miles or so of the coast, dont they? I think thats what I read recently,, anyway, if we could take even 1/2 of the load off the current power grid & do it economically & do it w/o oil, imagine the ecological & economic benefit.. shazzam!

Back when they thought co2 was the major contributor to green house warming... someone invented a co2 extractor that scrubbed it from the air.  They were wondering where to store the stuff.  They mentioned how much co2 is already stored in the ocean and wondered if there was a tipping point and it would all be released causing the next ice age.

If this is true, then pulling the co2 out of the ocean/air and recycling it into fuel will be extremely beneficial to us.

I saw that ... but my take was..

This is a logistic success not not a new energy.  You need energy to turn the saltwater into a liquid fuel for use in transportation. It was not my understanding that we get free energy.

Oil/gasoline is useful due to amount of energy it stores. The need is to replicate that at sea.

Hopefully I am wrong.

Of course you can get hydrogen from water with electricity, but they mentioned catalysts for the process.  And quite possibly heat and pressure.  Which might mimic the natural process for the organic crap.

Could this be some form of trick?  An attempt to fool other countries to spend a lot of money and time researching how to do this....instead of spending that money on missile and bomb technology?

The sea is a little far away... "how 'bout making fuel from dust?...
;D ;D ;D...

Dave, you may be onto something there.. I does kinda make a guy say "Huhh?" that we would allow this out.. IF we can do this, we need to keep it quiet,

Alright,.. I just gonna' say it,... since no one else has...

Something smells fishy here... :-?...

The Navy's first formal report of converting carbon dioxide in to jet fuel
feedstock was in a paper presented at the annual meeting of the
American Chemical Society on Aug. 16, 2009 :

http://oasys2.confex.com/acs/238nm/techprogram/P1260309.HTM

It was reported by the NewScientist on Aug. 18, 2009 :

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn17632-how-to-turn-seawater-into-jet-fuel.html#.U1XkNahdWSo

Sounds like legitimate research and results if it passed the scrutiny of
the American Chemical Society. I think that a major hurdle will be to
scale up production and have a net energy gain from the process.
