Title: Tortilla Flat Run
Post by S-P on 03/25/14 at 17:04:04

This is one of the top rides in AZ.  I've been there in a car, but took the newly modified bike this afternoon on our maiden voyage. It took about 4 hours with a stop for ice cream in Tortilla Flat.  I thought about doing a helmet cam, but someone beat me to it.  Check it out!

Pretty cool SP,...  I'll have to try that one...

We just did the Winkleman, Globe/Miami to Superior loop 2 weeks ago...
Miami to Superior is awesome!...
I plan on Go-Pro'ing that one next time...
;)...

YUP! The Salt River Canyon ride through Globe is on my list! I've driven it dozens of times!  There is actually a huge loop that goes around all the "canyon lakes" (going counter-clockwise) that takes you through Canyon Lake, Tortilla Flat, Apache Lake, Roosevelt Lake and then to Jake's Corner up toward Payson, then you come back to Phoenix on the 89 going south, which is an awesome drive too (I make it regularly to visit my parents, I plan on biking it soon!)  The entire loop is nothing but National Geographic scenery and twisty road with some nice straights.  It's a popular run on weekends. There's easily a couple hundred bikes on the loop on the weekends.

Was there not a restaurant in tortilla flats that had all of these dollar bills stuck to the walls? And then burned down a while back?

Why is that called Tortilla Flats....when it is hilly?

What was wrong with their motorcycles?......I didn't hear Thump, ticka ticka, Thump , ticka ticka, Thump, ticka ticka, Thump, ticka ticka, Thump, ticka ticka.........

Ha!  I think it is the only flat part of the valley they found to build something on.  :)  It used to be a water station in the desert back in the 1800's.  On the weekends it is mostly old men on their Harleys and trophy wife on the back, a few rice rockets and a bunch of snow birds with their left blinkers on.  They'll leave in a couple months. The ride yesterday during the week was virtually clear roads.
