I have a post going about wanting to change my turn signals, but I also plan on removing the stock rear brake light and fitting a small cateye brake light right beneath the fender where that useless reflector is that as far as I can tell doesn't even light up. This would be an easy mod, but then I'm left with a 10mm out so sized hole there and I'm not about to put some sticker or something over it. I've seen at Autozone they have these pseudo type metal compounds to fill in gaps, just mix the two compounds together and fill the area needed, wait ten minutes then sand down and voila! A few things I'm skeptical about. Just how well will this bond with my fender (assuming that I've sanded the paint down and left a good surface to bond to. How solid is this going to be? Or little thumpers are a bit heavy on the vibrations and I'm worried even if it does stick, will it stay as if I welded a piece of metal to it, or will it get brittle and eventually start cracking? Last concern and this is my biggest, I can't afford to sand down an area of my fender and do this and then get the whole thing repainted, if I could I'd just weld in the metal and be fine with it. I'm wondering if it's possible to sand down the area and a bit around it, and then reapply a primer then matching color then clear coat?

I can't get my copy/paste function to work as I'm posting from my phone but I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the bike Black Beauty which I've mentioned numerous times as there are many things about that bike which I have done or am in the process of doing. Now for his rear fender from what I understand he did the route I can't afford and welded in a piece of metal and repainted the whole thing. If I could do it the way I just described or if someone has a better idea, please let me know.

For this type of work I keep some JB Water weld epoxy putty around. It's nice because I can cut off a piece, activate it by squishing it and shape to fill cracks and holes. After setting for 24h it can be sanded down smooth. It's basically the same thing as bondo, but you can use a small amount and save the excess for other jobs.
For a 10mm hole, you shouldn't have to back it, but you could epoxy glue some sheet metal to the back of the hole to give it a better form.

What color is the bike?
Can ya think of anything youd like to see there?
IIRC, some guy had an old coin on his front fender.
A small silver belt buckle with turquoise in it?
Just hafta mount a short bolt & screw it on..

Maybe a piece of brass, smoothed out & domed a little, polished up.
Ive seen chrome inserts that just stick in a hole with little spring legs to clip it in..
There are ways to solve it & avoid paint,

I removed the tail light assembly, put a small unit under the fender flare..
To fill holes:
remove fender
sand to bare metal underside around holes
glass-cloth (thin) epoxied to sanded bare steel
topside fill holes with "Bondo" sand smooth
"spot putty" the fine scratches, wet-sand smooth

Most hardware stores have "hole plugs" that are made of pastic or rubber that can be pushed into a hole and leave a fairly flat surface. You could get one of these plugs and paint it to match.

If you only want to cover the hole you can do what I did. That way if I ever wanted to put the original back it would be easy.

I installed a cat's eye under the lip of the fender and then made a medallion to cover the original tail light's holes.

I've got it! Drill out the hole and install a tow hitch!

Here's another one: Maybe you can install a windshield sprayer nozzle in the hole facing back and rig it to spray something at unsuspecting tailgaters!!

I've thought about doing that with the rear windshield wiper fluid on my truck LOL ;D
