So, I got to actually open up the bike for the first time yesterday, Rode with a buddy who's got a newer Dyna. just curious, but can anyone explain to me why i could keep up with him no problem? We were both more than surprised that every time he tried to pull away from me, I was right there with him.

Now, i did notice, on the klymer's manual that came with the bike, the PO had wrote "97MM Piston" on the cover. Think there's a chance the PO bored her out? Or is it normal for these bikes to keep up with harleys? If I can keep up with a Dyna, I can blow a sportster away. Good feeling when everyone is surpised how fast the little thumper is.

She's also been regeared, by the PO, chaindrive conversion, jardine exhaust, and K&N 5" Pod Filter.

Let me know what you guys think, and sorry if this is in the wrong spot

650 Vs. almost 1500, he should be able to pull on me all day!

Maybe I'm underestimating the thumper, but who knows. Vers, were both in California, we should meet up sometime! All kinds of questions, and it'd be great to ride with someone on a savage too.

Thinking of riding to the coast wednesday, going with the same dyna and a sportster, will have to see how she does then. Also, i notice at night, when im sitting at a light, theres a hell of a lot of smoke rising up from the motor, ALOT more than the dyna was putting out. Chock this up as oil on the fins burning up from the plug leak, more heat because of the style of motor, or do i actually have an issue?

if you got the plug leak, it'll be oily and smoky no matter what you do.
fix the leak, clean it, no more smoke.

Just making sure it was normal, couldnt think what else the smoke could be from, and didn't want to hurt my motor. I really need to get my cam chain tensioner to you, i just started hearing the faintest ticking coming from the motor :/ But being a broke 22 year old on your own, sometimes, food comes before parts :/ sucks shes my daily driver, hope she'll last till i can afford it

You better always be hearing a ticking, or the valves are too tight, never a bad Idea to check them. Always do it cold.

Hmm. I'll check into all this. Big thank you over to the PO lol i guess i should count my blessings and call it a day. We dragged down a nice long strip last night, my speedo is WAY off, mind you, so i only have what he said to go on, but he was reading 75 on his and i was still pullin away at a pretty good speed, wanna say i was in 5th, but might have been 4th, didn't really have time to check while i was attempting to keep my little 3/4 helmet from ripping off.

Your savage is 425lbs.... his dyna is twice that and maybe a couple pounds more. Your torque ratio is probably twice his.... my wife's savage is more than enough match for my friends intruder, and he has two cylinders.
It also depends on the rider and how good he/she is with the clutch/throttle/shift operations.

A guy down the road from me has a Dyna. He goes by and it sounds real good. But, it seems to be geared for nothing but torque. It seems like he literally has to shift at 12-15 mpr increments. I wouldn't doubt it if 4 gear tops out at 60 (they still have 2 more).

I sure some of the guys here have had one or something similar. What do you think?

Thanks for the good info, good article on performance, he doesnt have open pipes, actually has really good slip ons. Guess I'll just chalk it up to the savage is a little more ballsy then i thought :)
