Title: savage carburetor issues please help
Post by WickedBiker on 03/13/14 at 16:37:37

I just bought a 2000 savage and replaced the engine with a 98 the bike started right up and ran threat mostly except for so,e major backfire I went to adjust the air fuel screw and it closed fine but was stripped bad when I tried to open it. Long story short I tried the drill it and use a hex bit and it just continued to strip so I drilled it out all the way and the pin is still stuck in it. So with the last of my money I went on eBay and looked for carbs there was one from JC Whitney that said it fit a 99 Savage 650 a mikuni VM30-83 and I get it and obviously 30mm is to small. Here's the ad

Does this fit?
How?
If not do I have any options I am completely broke now after tagging and everything else $1,500 bucks laer

So it is possible just a pain in the ass?
Is it better performance and what do I need to make it work out?

If you have to ask,.. it's probably not something you want to tackle...

Not being sarcastic... it just takes some serious rigging, and tuning abilities along with meticulous attention... to change to a different carb...

I don't know that specific model... someone else will clue you on that...
I just wouldn't recommend trying it...
I wouldn't do it myself unless I had to... and I know I'd hate doin' it...

I have a stock carb I'll sell for 50.00 + shipping (about 20.00).

The 30mm roundslide carb does not work on the Suzuki Savage.....J.C. Whitney is wacko!

The 34mm carb works well - but it requires a different rubber carb spigot adapter, a different throttle cable, and you have to jet it properly.  It takes a bit of doing.....but it really runs well once it is done.

Send the 30mm back along with a nasty note....it is not the correct carb for the Suzuki and is not a bolt on carb.

Thanks that's what I did I RMA returned it and put my old carbs back on I ordered an extended air fuel screw and I'm praying It'll be cool and work out, I get it in a couple days I'll let you all know what happens.

If I can fix the knocking and its not serious I'll do more worthwhile upgrades later like the 34mm. Only next time I'll come here and ask first :)

But the knocking will be in a new thread, hope to get er running right sooner or later
I can't live without two wheels and an engine attached to me
