You can get Rotella at just about any auto parts store. I just saw that Mobil has a new diesel synthetic oil that's supposed to have ZDDP. It's a couple bucks more a gallon (22.00) than Rotella synthetic here in AZ.

That's a matter of preference bobdog. If you like synthetic oil in general then use it in the bike and go a bit longer between changes. I use Rotella dino and change oil every 1500-2000 miles. I figure with the heat our thumpers generate I'm betting on the safer side and synthetic is too costly to change that often.

I live in AZ and use synth in my cars because of the heat. I extend my oil changes to double the 3K I used to do with regular oil, so cost kind of balances out.  I figure the synth will hold up better just in case I have a major heat related failure, so it's kind of insurance in my mind.

Why do you want to use STP oil treatment?

Do you have an old engine that is so loose it needs the oil to be thickened up?

STP was an old school product to thicken the oil and provide increased oil pressure in engines  that were badly worn.  Engines with bearing inserts that would wear out....the Savage has roller bearings and about the only thing the thicker oil will help resolve is oil getting past worn rings....it could lower consumption a little bit.

STP is not really going to help a Savage much.

Didn't I read a thread about Rotella having a $10 rebate 'til the end of the month?
