Title: need wiring diagram help
Post by cmc on 03/06/14 at 06:13:27

I have a 1988 savage ls650 with a 6 wire rectifier.

can anyone help me with a melted wiring harness, that has a lot of wires that are corroded at the connections....and the wires to the decomp solenoid are melted together at the plug.

i wanna get rid of the clutch switch, kick stand switch, and the decomp system. could i possibly use the key for shut off? and can i possibly do the decomp by hand?
but i do wanna keep the starter button, blinkers, neutral light, tail lights and headlight. I have been confused because i dont know what some of the components are on the diagrams (EX: ignitor) and there are 2 little black boxes that i dont know what they are for, one has 5 wires and the other has 3 prongs that has the numbers on the side that read 6Z20 (looks like a fuse with 3 prongs..)

can anyone help me?

The ignitor is the device that interprets the signals from the rotor/stator and converts it into the impulses sent to the coil to make spark.

The little fusey looking thing with the 3 prongs is the sidestand diode.

The 5 wire thingy is most likely the decompression controller.

Yes you can install a manual decompression lever and do it by hand.

Yes you can use the key to shut the bike off.

You can look at the RYCA website or YouTube videos and see how to eliminate the decompression and side stand circuits.

Not sure what to tell you about your burned and crispy wires....something got shorted out somewhere.  You should be able to use the color coded wires on the wiring diagram to figure out what the stuff is.....count the wires and the colors....and match it up to the diagram to figure out what it is.
