Title: Help! Cable mount borken.
Post by JayDuta on 03/01/14 at 00:58:46

The wrench session was going well until I broke off this clutch cable mount on the engine. As I was tightening the nuts securing it and a piece broke off. >:( Now am I screwed or can this be stick welded back on? I'm not sure if any type of glue, adhesive or cement would be strong enough to keep it in place.

Any suggestions on how to fix it or remount? Thanks.

JB Weld would possibly work?

Jb weld that then I would attach a plate on top and somehow mount it to everything as support

Both nuts go on top on that too.  They don't sandwich it.  Just making sure you know.

I'd try JB to hold it and a plate like has already been suggested.  Might get someone that can weld aluminum to fix it if you can find someone that will do it with it still on the bike. Can't stick weld alu.

Yep, its borked allrite.. You can fiddle around & jake leg it & make it work, or pay someone to fix it... Youll spend hours fabricating a bracket to put in & secure it & It MITE Work,,

pay someone, & thats from a guy who fixes stuff all the time. I very rarely pay anyone to solve m y problems,, If that was my problem, I would consider taking it for a right fixin,, Unless youre good at fixing stuff, & I dont mean normal wrenching, I mean fixing Busted Stuff, you should probably just haul it to a welder, That takes a load, a pretty hefty load,, so, lets say you"Fix it".. & it passes the "round the block" test & you get 40 miles from home when it lets go,, hows that gonna work for ya?

You aren't the first,.. I remember someone breaking that bit before...

Oooochie!... some parts you just don't want to break...
Best luck... I'd go along with JOG... (pay to have it welded)...

As a general rule... I only torque head bolts and internal engine parts...
Externally,... I will crank down on steel parts,.. but, steel attaching to aluminum, I just go snug, then feel for the stop... (better to have to re-snug it than to break or strip it)... (never try to stop a leak by tightening more than that, just let it weep, or pull the bolt and add a touch of RTV)...
A weep in annoying, but a break is tragedy...
JMHO...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. So I crappity smacked up by sandwiching the nuts between it. I will JB weld it and have a buddy weld a plate for support. Breaking little nuts like this on the block sucks!!!
