Title: Invite for google glass
Post by old_rider on 02/25/14 at 12:26:26

Ok, google glass has sent me a letter via email saying that I can invite someone to qualify for a google glass.

Requirements,

Must be in the U.S.
Must be 18 years or older
Be able to pay $1,500.00 (yup expensive)

Is it worth it? I'm not sure just yet... its a fun device and in the future will probably have more apps for it, that's why the testing.
A chance to get in on the ground floor of testing for google glass (not sure if there will be more devices in the future and not saying you will get selected, but you never know).

If someone sends me a pm, i'll send the invite into google, Probably have to have your email address :)

... I think I can only do one, but i'm not sure.

Samsung shares the patent portfolio with Google now, and they are coming out with their own take on the glasses thing later on this summer.

$1500 is way to much money -- you are talking "early adopters" here, folks who really believe it the idea enough to support finishing the development.

You got a whole world of smart watches and fitness trackers and computer glasses and cell phones built into glasses and all sorts of "wearable stuff" coming out in the next few years.

Gonna put Dickie Tracy and Star Trek and Star Wars to shame, they will.

Bunch of stupidity if you ask me.  People don't need to be connected to the internet all day every day.  I hate nothing more than going out with people and having people just all sitting around staring at their stupid phones/gadgets.

And I really hope they make these things illegal to drive with.  Last thing I need is some idiot watching youtube videos driving next to me swerving all around.

Thousands of distracted drivers,... and growing numbers of "death by texting" incidents...
... and now they come up with this?...

Purrrfecto... :-?...

The only solution is to design them to be inoperable at speeds over 5mph... (allowing only 911 calls)...

But what about the possibility of using them as a HUD? I mean even while riding those would be sweet to use similar to the skully helmet idea. If they could give you turn by turn directions and what not.

Plus if some of those smart fellers can do  some programming magic they could create an app which even has a trip meter on it to tell us when to fill up! haha

The die has already been cast...

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/16/tech/innovation/google-glass-ticket-dismissed/index.html

in short, pulled her over for speeding, then cited her for wearing the google glass(distracted driving).  Judge threw it out cause it was off.

One more point about this... I foresee a privacy issue coming about pretty soon, when you get pulled over the cop is going to request to inspect your electronic devices for recent use... as in heave you been texting or viewing recently.  I don't know why this hasn't become an issue yet.

If you think about it, cell phones with camera's have been around for ever and the taking a picture or video has already been abused, look at texting.
I think glass will have a better use other than just a web browser, picture taking device.
You can surf the web and look up things simply by using your voice.
Of course it opens up a new Misuse capability and those that do abuse it will have to pay the penalty..

But i'm talking about say I wanna change my timing chain, I can slap on the glass, call up you tube and follow along while watching the video.

Say your auto guy is working on your car and needs a part, with the proper apps, he could call the parts desk while still taking the part off and use his glass to open the schematic to get the part number, get you car out faster, all while still turning wrenches on your car.... now I realize its stretching it a bit, but I see apps going that way.

Guess I should start learning to write apps, maybe I can make a few bucks while playing around with it.

Also, when using glass as a gps, it doesn't stay on all the time, it comes on for about ten to fifteen seconds reminding you where to turn next, then it shuts back off. So it is actually less distracting than a regular cell phone or gps system that's on all the time.

Plus it can be set up for hands free calling and texting, just like your smart phone, but you don't have to look down or hold the phone in front of you, your hands are free.

Which I think is why they should not make it illegal to use as a gps... since it is actually less distracting.... its the folks that have never used one that think they are dangerous.

Its going to be a learning curve with all these new wearable techs coming out, heh, I've got a new stereo Bluetooth headset now too, and it works along side the google glass as it lets me use the phone with the headset and not the glass's measly ear bud...of course that's the smart phone being able to use two or more Bluetooth devices at once.

I'm liking it so far, and am hopefully going to be able to get the improved version if I turn in this one, or at least get a discount on newer versions.

:)
