Title: torque the head?
Post by Bubba on 02/20/14 at 08:29:23

So I have an '06 with 16000 miles...
Done all the usual stock mods raptor, pipe, tires, versy, jets...etc...etc

I noticed that there is some oil seeping at the top of the jug...I don't think it's the plug cap fix but I guess it could be...
the reason I don't suspect the plug cap is because there is not a bit of oil seeping by where the header attaches to the jug...nary a drop.

Where it is seeping seems to be on the left side towards the front of the head (where the little bolt comes from under the head).

my question is, is it possible to tilt the engine while in the frame to remove the head cover and torque the head bolts?
Thx!

If you have the chrome covers removed,.. it's likely the front left head cover bolt, not a head bolt... (That one does need to be in place and tight)...
If not,.. you can pull the head cover with the engine in place...

Thx! I have the chrome covers on it but I'll check to see if it's snug...I've only pulled this engine on another bike I fixed up for a friend...

How would one go about pulling the head cover w/o removing the engine? I've heard some folks just release some of the engine mounting bolts and then tilt the engine forward...does that sound about right?
Thanks again,

16,000 miles,, youve checked the cam chain? If not, its time,

I never touched the head bolts on mine, never had a hassle w/ the plug or leaks. It was a 2005 & I sold it with 20,000 on it.
The only leak I ever had was the 10 cent O-ring that seals the clutch cover & clutch actuator rod that goes thru it, I was given the chance to replace it when the clutch throwout broke.
