Title: Consumer Reports on Motorcycles
Post by Steve H on 02/17/14 at 17:19:17

http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/02/17/is-harley-davidson-the-worst-motorcycle-money-can.aspx

They left out Suzuki completely.  Of course, this is a glossy, 'I did no research, just reposted the press release' Yahoo article.  Don't expect much.

The Beamers have a good reputation as well as high resale values.  When I did just a bit of research, a lot this made in China, that made somewhere else with a final assembly in Europe.  Just like everything else.

Kind of strange Suzuki wasn't represented in any capacity?

No, Suzuki is not on the list at all.  Polaris made it on the list somehow.
They rated the BMW worst followed by Harley at second to worst.

I read it.. pretty much a "fluff" article... HD second worst EVER!!!!!!

then go on to say.. all bikes in general average about $200 a year in repairs and that HD has an excellent rep for service. Basic "drama bait and switch" article.  It imparted ZERO knowledge.

Kinda wanted my 2 minutes back after reading it.

My two favorite brands to rag on... ;D...
Probably most people's...
So,.. it's tempting...

...but,... it does seem logical that buyers of high dollar, heavily equipped bikes would be more critical of minor flaws... and expect more service...

As usual, Consumer Reports is worse than useless...
I more often rely on Amazon's Customer reviews,.. but I take those with a grain of salt as well...

PS... just took the Sporty on a 240 mile ride to Globe and Superior, over the weekend...
...averaged 62mpg... not bad for a 900cc bike...

Ya know, if yer gonna blow smoke, youd be way ahead to blow smoke about a product type that has a smaller following than bikes.. YOu can say what ya want about dish washers, theres probably not a forum of people who know much about them,,but BIKES?? Man, youre gonna get Busted if you start telling lies..

News flash to Consumer Reports...
Motorcycles are minimalist 2-wheeled cars, that wear their insides on the outside...
They don't have seat belts or airbags, and aren't crash tested...
You generally rest your testicles on several gallons of gas,  hanging over hot spark and toasty metal...

... and don't wear your pocket protector when you test them... it will flap up and slap the sh!t out of you...

... You know you're a biker,... when you make fashion choices based on what it will do in an 80mph headwind...
;D...

Suzuki didn't make the list because it was only the top 5 selling motorcycle manufacturers in the USA which the article covered.

I lost faith in consumer reports a few years back when I read their car recommendations.  I owned a Chevy Beretta at the time, a 6 cylnder stick shift, 2 door....and it was a nice reliable car and it was fun to drive.  I had a friend with an earlier model that had nearly 200,000 miles on his.  The Consumer reports trashed the Beretta as a "typical rental car"....and recommended the nearly twice as expensive Volvo when looking for that size of car.  I gotta drive 40 minutes to get to a Volvo dealer......and I can be at any one of 6 different Chevrolet dealers in 10 minutes.  Maybe you gotta live in Vermont before their Volvo recommendation makes any sense.......cause it sure didn't make any sense for anyone living in rurual Kentucky.

:-?

Sense of humor, OK

Sense of "back to Planet Earth" ? Don't think so...

BMWs the worst ? Most expensive to repair, perhaps, but short of a 1970's Guzzi or a 2-stroke Vespa, BMW is the only bike I'd ride north of the Arctic Circle... or across the Tropic of Cancer...
