Title: Looking for tried and true 1986 chopwiring diagram
Post by ChrisTech on 02/13/14 at 04:58:18

Ive been looking around the site for quite a while trying to fing a good definitive bare bones wiring diagram for my 86' bobber project. I can figure it out pretty easily and post what I find, but why bother if someone els before me has gone through the trouble (research). also if anyone want to chime in on how one goes about measuring an exhaust u bend radius. I'd like to buy a mandrel bent j pipe from summit (like $17 ) and weld it to my flange i plan on cutting off the stock pipe,I want it to look like the ryca bobber header.. Thanks chris

I have not seen anyone post a "how to" on cutting down the wiring harness for a bobber.

You might check the RYCA website and their YouTube videos.  I know they provide infor on the Cafe' conversion wiring....maybe they do the same for their Bobber kits.

check the tech section index... there's a couple of applicable titles.

simplified/chopper wiring

and

lengthening wire bundles for technique.

Anybody know how the neutral indicator works. So I've chopped my wiring, ive rid the bike of the side stand switch and diode, with I believe the neutral indication wire coming from the engine case ties into. What I need to know is how would I incorporate that into my wiring. Does that wire send a certain voltage at some point, or does it work off resistance? I can test it once it's up and running, but if anyone has any experience , that would be great thanks.

I think I figured it out.. Neutral switch is just a relay that makes to ground! Send 12v through bulb and use the blue wire from the relay ay my ground.

You got it, Chris.

Neutral switch just grounds.  That's the way to do it.
