Truthfully,.. I think it might be Puch... (never know how to pronounce that.."puke"?)...
(my guess is based on the square downtube)...

There is a name on the side of the petrol tank, but it's pretty much illegible. I'm wondering about an English Panther. The petrol container on the  fork looks more continental so maybe NSU or small Guzzi or something.

Well, the engine, forks, exhaust, are right on those in the pics. But the frame in my pic is riveted flat stock, not round tubing.  So I'm leaning toward Zundapp, Simplex, Nimbus, etc...

Yeah, there were some differences... but I attributed them to the maybe "throw these parts together" build because with a bike that old how you gonna find parts?

It might be a compilation of a few bikes... but what was he shooting for?

Yes, I guess that's it... this motorcycle is very similar to Java, and even seems to be between the legs of girls visible letters "WA"...no, not there, and below, near the ankles...  :)
that's the only engine of this motorcycle is completely not similar to the upper picture

Can't be certain, that's from the royal house of Stewart.  If you're not a clan member, this is the tartan you should wear.
And the blond accoutrements further calls your observation into question.

Thank you Arnold, I honestly couldn't track it down. Now I want one (the bike, not the broad, not a fan of blonds).

They're still in business, check out the retro bikes:

The new ones are okay, but I'd really like one like that 1935, with the pillion seat removed and the luggage rack made usable. Motorcycles made after the mid 1960s just don't look right to me, other than the Drifters, Kiwi's replicas, and V-Twin Mfg's Big Twin HD replicas.

A guy in my class in HS had a '66 or'67 Jawa 350. He and another guy were turning onto a highway from a side road at night and were rear ended by some drunk university students going 90 mph in a 50 zone. It launched the passenger through the front and rear windows of the car killing him instantly, and threw the driver of the bike over the car and in the hospital for 6 months.
