Title: The moral high ground of dems
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 01/29/14 at 10:42:48

[ch8206]”These Negroes, they‘re getting pretty uppity these days and that‘s a problem for us since they‘ve got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we‘ve got to do something about this, we‘ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference.”

~Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat)

President Lyndon Baines Johnson, And is “Great Society” to help the Negro… was recorded on a White House taped (and saved) conversation claiming, “I’ll have them niggers voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.”

What? You believed that was done FOR them? Naaah,, that was done TO them,.,

...and to think,... no republicans were using the N-word 50 years ago...

Negro was an acceptable term 50 years ago... Given southern accents...
It's not hard to hear negro.. as negra, or nigra, or black person...

I listened to a clip of LBJ saying it... and I can't tell...

Either way... it's pretty irrelevant... it's half a century old...
America still had separate bathrooms  and water fountains for blacks... and "whites only" signs...
LBJ helped stop that... regardless of verbiage...

So Sew....if that tape was 3 years later and it was Nixon saying that, you'd offer the same get out of jail free card to Nixon as you just did for LBJ? Be honest now.....

Also, my history might be a bit fuzzy but didn't the Republicans overcome a democratic filibuster in 1964 to pass the civil rights act?

As far back as I can attribute that quote,.. is from a book by a man named Kessler... trashing LBJ...
I cannot attribute it to LBJ...

I did find the second quote... in which I can't tell what he's actually saying, pronunciation wise...

LBJ was against racial equality, before he was for it...
Just as Obama was against gay equality, before he was for it...
Times do change,.. as do minds...
Liberal minds change faster... as is evidenced here every day...
There were, and still are no liberal, progressive Right-wingers...
Gay issues, women's issues, race issues... the Republican party is still the party of white males...
And bandying about these 50 year old, unattributed, quotes don't help...
It's ain't like the Right hasn't made up quotes before...
It's part of their modus operandi...

Didn't everyone lose their nuts because of Paula Deen?

Oh wait, who cares?

Now you're just creating distraction...
Comparing a rapper to a TV cookshow host...
.. and a political statement, to a racist one...

I'm not going to go off tangent by following every finger...

Flag burning is a protected right of free speech confirmed by the Supreme court... it is true political speech...
It is what the 1st amendment was intended for... not to protect all speech, but most specifically political speech...

Anyway... I'm sorry I spoke...
An opposing point of view in here is no longer discourse... it's just an interruption of the ongoing Tea party rant...

Have you noticed?...  There is no opposing view in here anymore?...
I'll leave you to it...

As far as I know, Negro is still acceptable, to wit:

The United Negro College Fund.  Still very active in raising money to send black kids to college.
