Im not seein how that idler sprocket is working. Whats holding the top run of the chain down?

i think its a jackshaft - chain from motor to a sprocket on that shaft, then another chain from the shaft to the rear wheel - bearings mounted behind that sprocket and on the opposite side of frame

Yep limpy, that's it. I remember a few of them around,labeled for hardware stores and farm supplys. Right fun little buggers and with a jackshaft sprocket change them things could get a feller killed!
