"The chip is based on the same Silvermont/Bay Trail technology as the Atom processors used in tablets such as the Asus Transformer Book T100 and Dell Venue 8 Pro, but as a Celeron chip this 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU uses a little more power and should offer slightly higher performance.

Intel says the processor has a 4.5W TDP and uses about 2.5W under normal conditions. It also features Intel HD graphics with a top clock speed of 756 MHz.

The new Classmate PC is designed to run Windows 8.1, but Intel plans to introduce Windows 7 and Linux models later this year.

HP will offer the first notebook based on the new Classmate design when its HP Classmate Notebook PC hits the streets later this month."

You see from this quick quote that Intel is NOT tied down in the Wintel alliance any more, nor are the various big computer makers -- they are all playing the field now, very flexible boys they all are now-a-days.

This little quote contains some pointed confirmation data. First, Intel has adjustable energy nanny chips which match the processor output/energy characteristics to the intended use.

Same processor, different output levels. I bet they can set the energy nanny chip up at the point they flash it, using the same hardware most likely.

Second, Intel accepts that their chips are going to go into a VARIETY of OS products, and Intel is all caught up on the re-release of Win 7 back into the wild. And the recent upsurge of Chrome and Linux in schools.

Lastly, education is a BIG constantly renewing market, and all of the players will be bowing down to the needs of kiddies in schools everywhere. Why? More laptops will be sold to these kids than to the existing business mass as business turns leased machines on a 4-6 year lease and the kiddies will bust them and turn them a good bit quicker than that.
