2002 Savage LS650P 4,000 miles all stock but a dyna muffler

I got my savage in the middle of winter, rode it once for 20 miles (all stock)

I bought a dyna muffler cause the original one sounds like *#*&%!

I rode the bike with the dyna muffler for 40 miles but its way too quiet! I couldn't hear the bike when riding a decent speed

Im thinking of drilling out the baffle with a 1" drill

Im running stock jets and stock newish airfilter

Which jets should I try out first after i drill and how many turns on the air/fuel screw?

A 1" hole will make it virtually an open pipe... Terribly loud.. and very weak torque.. and hard to tune...
Try a 1/8" hole... that should make it louder and maybe not ruin torque...

You can always go bigger... making a hole smaller is much harder... :-?...

Thank you, I will follow what your saying and start with a smaller hole first.

I just ordered the jetset from Lancer)

What do you think about 50/150 pilots?

I reside on Long Island in N.Y. elevation is around 400 ft above sea level

Wow. I don't have that problem with mine. It's loud as can be and has baffles in it.

I think you have your numbers mixed up! :o

That is a good place to start - if you do the white spacer mod with 3 washers above the needle and notice a flat spot between closed and 1/4 throttle when accelerating.....try removing one washer and running just 2.

I had a stock air filter, stock carb and baffled Dyna on my bike and I am about the same elevation as you. I had flat/dead spot in my bike just off idle where the bike just did not ride smoothly.....it was running lean and would run great at throttle settings above 1/4 - but it just hesitated when you first rolled on the throttle. I had done the space mod and was using 3 washer above the needle, and I tried every combination of #50 & #52.5 pilot jet and # 150 & # 152.5 Main jets....and the hesitation would not go away. When I removed one washer from the needle and just went to 2....I found the #52.5 pilot and # 152.5 main were too rich. When I put the # 50 pilot and #150 main in with the 2 washer, it ran great.

I would starte with the #150 main, #50 pilot, and 3 washers.....and if you have a flat spot off idle try going to only 2 washers on the needle.

My DYNA had the baffle in place.....and I (and my neighbors) all felt that it was plenty loud. You really don't need to be able to hear a loud exhaust note while you are going 60 mph down the road with the wind in your face.......to those behind and around you the bike is plenty loud. The DYNA muffler with the baffle in place makes for a nice sounding bike that doesn't offend people. Sound clips taken on a camera, transferred to the internet, and then played over a computer don't tell you anything about what it sounds like in person.

Yes, you will need to remove the cover and get access to the idle mix screw. This screw sets the mixture at idle, and it is necessary to have access to it to make the bike run well.

Ya, Listen to these guys they know what they're talking about with these modifications. I run a hollowed-out jardine...and it's loud as can be.. and I like that..loud pipes save lives..but hard ro jet..or maybe impossible..I don't know. I get back firing an after firing with flames... just start paying and find out what works for u. Definitely the white space in mod.

Yea,, dang phones,, I sat at a lite & counted the people turning left, on the phone. How many were "Hands off"? I dunno, but I counted 7 with hand to head,,idiots.. I got no idea how loud that thing is,, if others think its okay & people are seeing you, then I guess its all good.. The Supertrapp with 14 disks wasnt exactly quiet,,but it was easy enough to tune the carb to suit it,
