Title: Predictions come true - HP selling Windows 7 (new)
Post by Oldfeller on 01/20/14 at 11:49:29

Windows 8 sucks so badly that PC makers are blaming Win 8 as the biggest reason for the disastrous 2013 PC selling season.

Selling commercial to IT departments, Dell has avoided selling Win 8 machines for as long as possible by "regressing" one level (permitted by the MS OEM license).

Selling mostly at retail, HP has taken it in the neck with Win 8 until now. But enough is enough, HP is now selling just about every desktop and laptop with Win 7 on it at a $150 discount using the excuse it is "existing stock" .....

What do you bet they move some units?

Wanna bet Best Buy doesn't find a bunch of Win 7 loaded "existing stock" to put on $150 discount real soon?

Prediction:   Win 7 needed to come back to keep Microsoft afloat

http://liliputing.com/2014/01/intel-introduces-9-new-haswell-chips.html

Prediction:   Intel would have to come out with a new list of promised vapor-wear chips since Bay Trail was obviously not what was promised last year and isn't cutting it for speed, energy economy or price.

And here is the new list, being called Haswell now since the Bay Trail branding has begun to tarnish already.

This might be considered logical except for the fact the Haswell chipsets are being run at 22 nm right now and Intel has nowhere to go to improve them except to take the lithography down to 16-18 nm to make the existing designs all that much quicker/better.

And they are not saying they are actually doing this at this time --- so the sweet smelling vapor-wear smoke is rising into the air yet again.

So, Intel, your very best mainstream chipsets are going to have to be pressed into competition against the 2014-15 20 nm 64 bit ARM chipsets?

And how much of a loss are you going to sell them at in order to get price competitive?

You do realize that second quarter of this year you will be competing against 3 gigahertz 20 nm 64 bit ARM based chipsets with your 2 year old designs of 22 nm Bay Trail and Haswell chipsets that all require 4-6 times more support hardware on the motherboard?   Hardware that all takes extra energy from the battery?

Folks have seen behind the curtain, fanned away the smoke and smelled the synthetic Antutu roses you had planted.    You don't get to play OZ the Great and Magnificent any more, you have been outed already as an old humbug .....

Intel, you are NOT competitive at all right now for speed, energy efficiency or price.  You are selling sub-par chips below cost right now.   You can promise the world for next year, but starting very soon your lunch will start to get eaten by your competition all over again.

::)   Take a look at them prices ..... Wall Street is going have to love up on you even more, I think.
