Title: Life of Rear Brake Shoes
Post by paulchristi on 01/19/14 at 16:25:34

I'm due for a rear tire change on my 2005 at 18000+.

My question for the wizards:

How long to rear brake shoes "typically" last?  If I'm going to go through the rigamarole of taking the rear wheel off, it would be a good time to change the shoes.

My shoes are the originals, and I'm having no braking issues.  The wear indicator on the rear axle looks fine, haven't really seen it change over the years.  I guess I can't tell if the brakes are wearing out until they start squealing.

Of course, I'll inspect the shoes, but if I'm anticipating a change I'd rather get a good deal on the internet than have to pay dealership prices at the last minute.

Thanks!

Paul Christiansen

Unless your brake is adjusted wrong, theyre good to go.They last a LONG time.. Have ya noticed how easy it is to lock the rear tire up stopping? I sliced grooves across mine, probably killed 1/3rd or more of the surface are so it couldnt grab so hard. It was still easy enough to lock up, but at least I could use it if I was careful,

Yea, Versy,, you have tons of miles on them,, but you ride so SLOW,, you hardly ever even use brakes, right?

I don't know about the slow part, but maybe I don't brake too often.

...'bout the only thing my rear brake ever does, is stop me rollin' backerd's on a hill...

I expect to get a least 400k miles from it...
...(assuming the hills don't get any steeper)... :-?...
