Title: Oil galley
Post by Jsud04 on 01/17/14 at 13:41:31

Hello,

What's the purpose of the odd shaped o ring on the head cover? High pressure or return?

If you look at this diagram, you can see that the oil flow to the head goes up the right rear of the cylinder.  That O-ring seals the oil supply galley.  The oil returns from the head down a galley the right front of the cylinder.

So the fact that the corresponding bolt is stripped ( previous owner) is relativity significant...ie it's got high pressure encouraging it to travel upwards....

And if it's stripped, the sealing washer under the head of the bolt aint gonna seal very well.

So I have to....

Pull the engin.
Remove head cover
Remove cam and rockers
Remove head
Cry
Drill tap and coil
Re assemble head
Remove crankshaft cover
Cry
Adjust timing and re install camshaft and chain
Install head cover
Install engine
Dance around
???

With a little luck...  ;)...

...use very lite coating of rtv to seal the head cover... that galley can get plugged pretty easy with any excess...

Could a good machine shop use an extended drill and tap to place an insert at 5.11 inches? Or reduce the hole to m5 or m4 and use a 130 mm stud with threads on the ends and a bolt to lock her down?

Not sure how you go about driling and tapping in an oil galley.....and not have shavings being pumped to places you don't want the shavings to go?

High suction. Am I wrong to assume that if you did a ring a
Job one might have some metal flecks. Then again, its been stripped for 27 years and hardly leaks. I might fashion a bracket that mounts where the decorative cover goes and have it bent and formed so it applies pressure to the top of that bolt.

On another note I am having a hard time finding hose that fits my breather on the valve cover.
