Title: Heat sheild
Post by twelveport on 12/24/13 at 10:10:52

When I got this bike it was a salvage job & had a Harley muffler on it. They had a custom bent tube about 8" long with a 1" or so off-set. I think this part of the exhaust tube is stainless. It turns a ucky brown from the heat & if I'm not careful it will burn my leg. I already have brown spots on my jeans from the heat. A friend of mine suggested instead of chroming this piece, to find a heat shield for it. Any thoughts here guys?

Yup,.. we mostly cover the joint with a cheap $10 heat shield...
They're available all over the place.. most bike sites, stores, and E-bay...

Here's a flamey one...

Thanks, I'm still shopping for one that will cover the off-set, maybe one that is larger on one end than the other.

That style fits with the Harley mufflers.  It ends as the muffler tapers larger.  And it looks way better than the huge stock shield.  (Mine is sans flames)

That looks real good, same type of muffler. But for some reason the dealer in Dubuque IA who supposedly done the salvage on this bike put a 1" offset and that pipe is about 10" long. Not sure why they done this, but sometimes it is just easier to live with it. I have my eye on a heat shield from JP Cycles. Still looking around. I like the looks of yours better.  :-/
