Title: Rectifier Ground
Post by Ls6500 on 12/21/13 at 08:03:02

Greetings, Savage owners  :)

Im in the beginning of stripping down my bike and relocating things, like the rectifier.. As it sits on the rear fender I was wondering if it also has it's ground through there..? Or is it possible to mount it on a plastic surface?

By the way im new to the forum, and I will be posting some pics of my progress of my project. Should I create a new post for that, and where's the appropriate place for it?

You can mount it anywhere, on any material...
Just make sure it gets some airflow across the fins...

Quite a few of us (me included) have just dropped the rectifier into the stock air box (if you are still running stock air filter).

That sounds like a great solution.. The rectifier will get some cooling through the air coming through the filterbox, I imagine was the idea?

I had my bike "bobbed' for a while and was too lazy to make a mount for the rectifier so just dropped it into the air box. I have since changed the bike and have left to rectifier there and haven't had any problems in the last 3 years with it in the air box

On my Ryca conversion, the r/r was relocated to the side of the Ryca battery box.  I initially had it bolted to the metal box, but was getting a short that would blow fuses every time I started.  Someone else on this board had experienced a similar problem, and his advice was to have some sort of insulation between the r/r and any metal mount.  I've remounted mine just using supervelcro, and no more shorts.
