Title: DIY inside project continues
Post by kimchris1 on 12/20/13 at 08:04:08

My project started last month.
I painted the ceilings in the kitchen
and living room.
Then I had the walls to do in the living room
as had done the kitchen a couple years ago and
it still looks good.
Ok so then couple weeks ago, the man came and measured
the floor for the laminate and underlayment.
I had taken measurements in yet they want to do their own
if their doing the install. So I paid for that and that $40.00 went
towards the purchase of the materials.
So going forward, the walls are painted.
Then I had been thinking of staining the doors and trim that were
all white to a darker color.
So sanded and started staining. Of course I couldn't do them all in
the same day as the stain is smelly and need to keep the room vented to
allow the fumes to dissipate.
I love the outcome of this. The doors and trim now have taken on a beautiful woodsy look..This is going to look good with the wood floor.
I have the trim in the entry way as well as the entry way itself and front door left to do.
Also I have to go back now and retouch a little as the brush jumped up and hit the ceilings when I was painting the walls.
I just don't have a clue as to how that happened.. :-X
Yesterday we picked up the flooring and the rest of the materials and their snuggling in the spare room.
It has to sit and acclimate to the temps we run in the house for at least 3 days.
I will call the installers this a.m. to see when they can put us on their schedule for the completion.
The best thing too is their removing and disposing of the carpet and pad, as well as moving the furniture in and out.
Oh yeah I paid for that yet it will be easier in the long run.
Will it be done before Christmas? I don't care as didn't plan to be anyways.
Were not having any family or friends for dinner this year so will be quite.
I have Christmas Eve off and will have to go in that evening. So some quite will be nice..
I am planning to do the touchup tomorrow as today am going shopping.. :)
No tree as everything is kind of displaced with this project. Oh I do have a small fibro optic tree I can place on top of the kitchen queen. Might get that done today..
Oh yeah and have been working full time and so thankful for my job.
So if you don't hear from me for awhile, this is what I have been up to.
My project is slowly coming to an end and yet seems their is still much to be done. So I best get busy.. Hugs everyone. Happy Holidays too.. :-* :-* :-* Kim

Wow... energizer bunny speed...
Sounds like you have big plans and have your hands full, LOL we have plans to do the same to our master bath and possibly the kitchen.
I bought some tile (black sparkly granite) about 7yrs ago, but we sold that house and got this one so we have been waiting on the moola for the cabinets.
We bought the vanities for the bathroom at the same time.... and now we have been living here in our new home for 4yrs. but with my incident and healing everything has been put on hold.
We did however do our living room in wood flooring when we moved in, now all we have to do is paint, but we have one of those "flowing" floor plans that make it difficult to section colors from one room to another.
Good luck on your redo, and merry Christmas and happy new year to your too! :) :)

KC, I am kinda' crippled up,so have been remodeling 12X12 den for 3 months while usung it. Fixed tv/sound wall first Doing one wall at a time. Love hearing of your remodel. I used to do remodels and painting. It's amazing what a change of color will do! And sometimes (I finally discovered) hiring it done is well worth hiring someone for part of it. BTW  what is a kitchen queen? We probably have one but call it another name here in Ms.  ;D

My Kitchen Queen moves around a lot, and she would never allow me to place a tree on of her........

Oh, and something you might think about if you have a garage with a cement floor.

When we did our living room in Illinois, it was 15 X 16, and our garage was a foot shorter, we just took the carpet and put on the garage floor.
Made for a good comfy surface in cold weather, and we didn't care much about it being stained.
Kept it there till a month before we sold the house.... but the washer/dryer was out there so it made doing clothes a bit better than a cold hard concrete floor in the winter.

Boofer, I enjoy hearing of others DIY projects as well.

Now let me see if I can describe the kitchen queen right.
It is a piece that has bins for flour and sugar. It also has
a ledge that on mine is enamel. That piece slides in and out
and was used to roll pie dough on.
It also has storage for pots, pans or plates and drawers
for silverware and utensil storage.
It has two doors on the bottom that reveal storage for
other items.
In the olden days, hope I don't offend anyone, they used these
as storage was premium and substituted as cupboards as well.
I will try and get a pic and place on here to give you a better perspective.
Mine has the older hinges like the old refrigerator cabinets had as well.
I had one that had a roll top type drawer and was flat on top where again this one is more of a cabinet type.

Oh and I did get the retouching done on the ceiling.
Their coming Jan 2, 2014 to remove pad, carpet and
do the flooring.. I am so excited as will start the new year
with new flooring.. :) kim

Kitchen Queens were most likely to be in a "bakers closet" a small offset from the main kitchen. We had one in an old house we lived in that still had the stainless steel in the flour bin, and had a two tier oven about 2 feet off the floor.
