Title: Rear belt thingy (pulley?) loose-ish...what to do? Post by Bluesman on 12/12/13 at 15:53:12 The young BikerLady:s rear belt pulley (correct word?) is kinda loose. It can be wiggled a couple of mm with the belt on. The belt may even be overtight - it can barely be twisted 90 degrees by hand. The bolts are tightened solid, so I keep thinking of the rubber things behind the pulley - could they be worn/aged, allowing for the pulley to flex - with only 16000km on the meter? ? On my bike (14000km), everything is rock solid in that department. |
Title: Re: Rear belt thingy (pulley?) loose-ish...what to Post by Oldfeller on 12/12/13 at 16:11:22 Movement in that area is normal -- the rubber bumpers are not a precise fit (especially on older bikes) and their function is to buffer radial start/stop motions, not to control the rear pulley position precisely. I know, it sounds funky .... but the rear pulley system and the belt seem to continue functioning without any real problems for ridiculous mileages. |

Title: Re: Rear belt thingy (pulley?) loose-ish...what to Post by Dave on 12/13/13 at 03:37:08 I tightened up the play in mine a little bit by installing some rubber shims cut from a thin rubber floor mat...about the thickness of a heavy innertube. Durability testing is on hold until winter is over - but it does appear to have solved the problem while the bike is sitting stationary! |
