Why do they have a switch position that will drain the battery? I have seen no useful purpose for this except to drain my battery? Is therea way I can stop the ignition from going to this position or a wire I can remove that will keep it from leaving the lights on. Not a big deal at night but I can't see the light in the daytime.

I feel like the purpose of that is to have a light on as a safety measure in case you're stranded on the side of the road at night or something. I'd say just don't switch it to that position, it's not difficult.

My wife was doing it constantly on her bike so I just took the switch off and found the wire responsible and cut it of the switch block. No more problem.

I thought it was just me. I could see the switch but you ought not to be able to pull the key out with the lights on. They could have done a better design.

I was also responsible for doing it a couple of times. The key on my Triumph turns off the opposite way to the s40. So all good now.

I just ran the tailight wire over to the ignition tap...
Now, my switch is on-off-off...

Bingo bypassed... :P...

There are some areas of the world where the law requires you park with the lights on in some public streets, so I believe this switch feature is supposed to enable those folks to park with the running lights on.  Back in the 70's I had a car that was imported from Germany, and if you moved the turn signal lever to either side with the ignition off - the parking lights on that side of the car would come on and burn without blinking.....while the US version of the same car would not do that.

Serowbot's solution seems line the best approach.  Just requires cutting one wire and splicing it into another one.  I have looked at the wiring diagrams and all the power to the switch comes through the red wire with the white stripe, the brown wire(s) take the power out to the running lights, the grey and orange wires take the power out to the myriad of lights and switches and ingition circuit.

To bypass the "PARK" feature on the switch......cut the brown wire and tap it into the orange wire coming from the switch.  Then tape off or wire nut the cut brown wire from the switch.
