China doesnt like it,
IMO, even tho our goobs have said theyre "hands off" on this, they wont be. Theres no way the fed will allow competition from another form of currency. The declared Hands Off policy in, IMO, just them waiting to see how it pans out. If it crashes w/o them doing anything, then they win. If popularity & usage spread, that will cause a backlash,

I tend to keep up with coins.. or I was. The thing is I only dealt with entities that I felt were above board. If they are using TOR... its shady. Not much to do with Bitcoins at ... just shady due to TOR.

As to the question of "is it too late to get in":
Yes and no. It cost a good bit of money to mine coins. Then what you end up with is coins.. not money. You then need to (generally) convert the coins to money to buy more equipment and or pay the power bill. When Bitcoin was sub- $300, many were making as little as $.11 per day. Thats not getting rich.
I have several posts on my experiment, which I count as a success ( LiteCoin), though I certainly didn't get rich (but I did have fun).
