Title: The Glory Days
Post by Blinky-FSO on 12/03/13 at 11:31:33

The Glory Days of British Motorbikes

I found this BBC production on Youtube in four parts. If you have a soft spot for Norton, Brough, Vincent, BSA, or Triumph bikes, it is an hour well spent. I especially like a quote in Part 1. "On a motorbike, you can put the world to rights."

If you don't watch it all, at least watch Part 4 starting at the 12:10 mark where you will see a very young Serowbot in his very first BBC interview.

BOT ... dude ... very curly hair and baby soft skin of youth ? ?
Is that really you ?
What year was that ?
How old were you ?
I enjoyed the look into the culture of the time; very interesting.

Naaa, that's not really me... Blinky's just funnin'...
I doubt I was born yet...

Fun and interesting video though...
I love that "ton up" "Ace cafe" period...

I even have a white silk scarf....(they're actually very practical, they're very thin, pack up very small, yet block wind better than anything) ;)...

If I had been asked such a dumb question,.. I might have answered something similar...
:-?...

When I was a young feller-me-bloke I never imagined that one day that greasy old cafe would be famous and the subject of documentaries.  I wasn't scared to ride past the Ace as I had an Ariel Square Four, a real bike.    Scooter riders were chased.   The spoons on the tables for sugar  were on chains and the tables screwed to the floor.     I was n't ever quite sure what I was -   I used to go to Eel Pie Island for jazz and R&B , but they had a sign saying "No Rockers or Greasers"    .  So I went on the bus, because in biker gear you weren't allowed in.  They even did a documentary about "The Island"   , which is now long gone.
And the bands around that area at that time - The Who, Rolling Stones, all before they were famous.
