Title: Burrr it's cold outside...
Post by kimchris1 on 11/22/13 at 17:06:35

So once again it is time for us
to bundle up and start doing
more indoor hobbies.
It has been below freezing the past
several nights here.
How cold? Well try 20 some mornings
and 26 a couple others..
Days are sunny yet takes awhile to get up to
the 40 or near 50 like today.
Roads have not been bad and that makes it
easier for the early a.m. commute home.
So far snow is staying in the mountains and I am
thankful for that.
How cold is it where you live? Any snow yet? :) kim

Yes, it even gets a bit cold in the deep south.  Next week overnight lows of 26, 27 with highs of 45, 46.  That's cold, but I remember when I lived in Michigan we had 45 days where the high didn't get above freezing.  I inadvertently ordered a balaclava that is so thick I can barely breathe through it.  With some good gloves I'll be alright.  Life's to short to worry about a little bit of cold.

Here in New Mexico we finally got some winter weather. Forecast for the next couple of days shows below freezing and possible snow. In NE Nevada it is even colder according to the forecasts. Kind of good we decided to winter here in New Mexico. But next year we will probably be staying in Nevada.

Slight amendment:
Just re-checked weather.com supposed to have snow storms tomorrow and Sunday in New Mexico and it is actually a bit warmer during the day in NE Nevada but much colder during the night with no precip predicted.

We're even getting some rain here in S.AZ...
We need it...

The thing is... it rains so seldom... that every time it does, we all realize our wipers have rotted off...
I hit the wipers today,.. and watched the arms run back and forth with bits of rubber trailing behind...
... always a big run on wipers at the auto parts store, every time it rains...
We don't get much rust here,... but rubber sure takes a beating...
:-?...

Laugh if you will, it was about 77 Fahrenheit in Auckland New Zealand today. I've loaded my bag for a trip to the South Island For the Burt Munro "Worlds Fastest Indian" festival in Invercargill. If the temperature is the same tomorrow, I'll melt with riding gear on. S40 will probably be the smallest bike in the group I'm going with and I'm looking at a three or four thousand km trip with a couple of bike museums along the way.

I live at the very end of the Columbia Gorge in Oregon. It's not so much  the cold but the wind. It just won't stop here for weeks it seems. Today we had gusts up to a bit over 70 mph. If you do not hang on to your car door, it will rip it off the hinges.

Sending warm thoughts your way.... was 73 here today and will get down to almost 40 here tonight...last night it actually stayed around 60 degrees f. because of low clouds.
Although this sunday night is going to be in the upper 30's and still won't freeze here along the coast (4 block from the gulf).

Rode the bike today was really nice, not too warm, no blazing sun...just kinda dreary day.

Alright....I saw this thread and it motivated me....to go for a ride.

It is 33 degrees and there were some snow flakes.  I put on insulated coveralls, then a heavy coat.....bella clava on my neck, full face helmet, and gloves.

I went for about an 8 mile ride....and it wasn't bad at all.  However the Savage was parked in the garage....the new to me Honda ST1100 fairing did a good job keeping the cold air off me! ;D

Lancer....it is Sunday!  Your church must start awful early if you have to get up at 4 AM to get ready!

It is 6:15 AM and the temperature is now 17 degrees.  I might just have to start thinking about what winter projects I have to do.

The Cafe' bike will get paint, a front fender, a working handlebar mounted compression release, and maybe a 1.5 inch header pipe....it it is a long winter! :o

24F with a wind chill of 13F. It's a bit chilly, but it should bring the rest of the leaves down.

Been out scraping ice and snow from the cars...Lake Effect snow here in greater Syracuse.  That wind is cold, not worth lingering in.  Only an inch or two, maybe 4" drifts due to winds.

Sounds like the NE/Broncos game tonight will be a cold windy glad I'm watching it on TV sorta game. :D

I think I have all of you beat...11 degrees this morning when I got up at 6.  High today a whopping 23 degrees.  My S40 looks bright and shinny in my garage tosty 50 degrees in there.  Spring can not get here fast enough ! in Southern WV I envy all you guys in the Southwest and Florida.

sounds cold - over here in Wales it was 6 above freezing  this afternoon, and has been below zero centigrade at night.     Not really very cold but the media always kicks up a big fuss about any weather. I was out on my  Vulcan 1600 yesterday , lovely and sunny about 4C .     No snow yet.

Six inches of snow last night and expecting more today. Glad I don't have to get out in it.

Southern Ontario, east of Toronto, approx 12F & sunny.  I have my Savage tucked away in a portable shed 9'x10'x6.5'high.  Will take battery out soon and charge it up in my garage/studio.  If we get any days up around 40F to 50F I will plug the battery back in and go for a short skoot to Tim Horton's for a hot coffee, even in Dec, Jan or Feb:-)  Have the gas tank full and fuel stabilizer mixed in so should be good to go.
Have a Vapor Digital Dash coming from Mrs. Santa which I will install over the winter - giving me a tach and trip meter capability.  A few other mods planned for over the winter months.
Fun, fun, fun

It does not matter what day it is, I almost always wake early; between 4-5 am typically but can be earlier.

It gives me plenty of time to get ready for church, and this, and that, and other stuff too, if I don't wake with a  migraine...which is not unusual.  Yeah, no fun, but it is part of my life.

Yes, you need the better header; you will like the way it runs.

Good Morning all!

Been hovering around  mid 40's for the past week, and that and colder for the next week at least. That don't seem too bad, but theres been just about nothing but drizzle the entire time. Not good rding weather IMHO.

I also am quite startled by my appetite. Normally, I do not really change my food habits. BUt this year I just cant seem to get enough "harvest" foods. Pumpkin pies ( I ate an entire one alone), apple cider, gumbo, bean soup.. any thing hot and belly filling!  Its like I expect to hibernate and need to get my fat on! wierd!!!!

Ice storm right now. Just a small one, not likely to do any damage or shut the county down. Very common for this area.

Well it seems were now in the midst of a heat wave.. lol...
It actually has not froze over in 3 nights here.
It is so nice not to have to de ice the windshield before I
can leave work in  the a.m.
Past couple days, it has even gotten to be 50 or a little higher.

Usually November is one of our wettest and nastiest months.
Not this one and forever nice day is one less nasty one I say.. :)
Haven't ridden Genie yet hope to possibly today.
If not she is snuggled in the carport and resting comfortably for now. :) kim

Yeah, seems I spoke too soon. It was below freezing when I
left for the gym earlier.
Had to de-ice the windshield and was off..
Now weather forecast is possibly chance of light rain this evening
and then the cold comes back with a vengeance.
Sat and Sun high predicted to be in 40's.
Then Mon, Tues and next week as of now, highs predicted
to be 38 at tops...
OMG.. Back into my long johns.. :) kim

Speaking of de-icing windshields. A buddy of mine was tell ing a co-worker had called in saying he couldn't come in because his windshield was iced up. My buddy told him to pour some water over the windshield.

Five minutes later the guy called back and said he no longer had a windshield because it had shattered. The fool had tried to pour boiling water over the windshield to de-ice it and as you know, such extreme change of temp will shatter glass.

Someone never passed their high school science class.

We already have had snow, it has not stuck yet but we have a hard freeze here, usually in the teens in the morning. Gotta love New England! Riding season is over... depressing :'(

Kim it looks like winter is hitting Kentucky earlier this year. We've already had a couple of nights down to 15-18*F and had 2" of snow earlier this week.

Wow a/c in Dec.. Not even in Fla did we ever
that I remember run the a/c in Dec..

My daughter and 3 grandkids moved to a small town
near Buffalo N.Y.. She said that neighbors were hanging
Christmas lights up in Sept..She asked why? They said
if you wait, you won't be able to as the snow will fall and
be too high..
She called me Thanksgiving and yes, snow on the ground..
Kids are having a blast..
Entirely different cold than what they were used to here.

I am not anxious for the snow as that means sharing the
roads with the non experienced drivers that think they know
how to drive in it. OH and the ones that think just because they
have a 4x4 their is no need to go slow.
Tow trucks and auto body shops love those kind.. ;D
