Title: Yamalube?
Post by Ragnar444 on 11/03/13 at 18:28:14

The salesmen I purchased my S-40 from recommended the use of Yamalube as an engine oil. Said it would make it shift smoother and generally help performance. Since my only other bike is a 1980 Yamaha XS-850 I'd heard of the product but never gave it much mind. Not sure if he was just trying to move inventory on an overstocked item or giving solid advice.

Without knowing how much ZDDp is in the oil.....we don't know?

As a relatively new member.....you may need to read this.

I know guys that swear by Yamalube and use it in all their bikes and small engines. Yamalube was designed for motorcycle and ATV use so it should be fine.

$13.00 a Gallon,, versus what? Whats Yammylube cost? Rotella T works great. Has a good record here. Is cheaper than most. Its good enough to see diesel engines thru the million mile mark,,YOu can spend more,,but I dont think anyone has suffered clutch or lubrication related failures using it, unless they had too low of an idle speed,,Idle speed is really important

Yamalube may be fine...don't know.  The problem with oils that are being formulated for modern motorycles with Oxygen Sensors and Catalytic converters....is the low level of ZDDp in the oil.  Our Savage has solid rockers without rollers.....and we need 1,200 ppm or more of ZDDP to allow the cam and rockers to last.
