Noticed part of the harness was being chewed up by being too close to the drive-belt. Anyone else had this particular problem and what would be the best repair?

The very, very, best would be a new stator... but, I'm way too lazy for that...
I'd just wrap any open wires with electrical tape,.. then wrap the whole bundle with some more, and tuck it out of the way...

Bet you was hoping for a more clever answer?... :-?...
Maybe someone else has one... ;D...

Yes,... someone gave a few of us loons the keys to the asylum...
Now we're in charge... We try to keep the dangerous ones in the Cafe' section... (sometimes they escape)...

My first impulse was to do just that. Grab a roll of electrical tape and go to town. But what about long term reliability and protection from rain? Don't know if I could ride easy knowing I did only a temporary fix.

Use Butyl Electrical Tape. You can usually find it at any hardware store.
It is some bizarre stuff.

Note: It only sticks to itself.
Wrap the wires that are showing conductor with regular vinyl tape.
Wrap the whole mess with butyl tape. Stretch it as you wrap it around the bundle. Do about an extra inch or so on each end.
It will create a water tight seal. I love that stuff.

It's also known as "self-amalgamating" tape.. and probably other things as well.

Thanks for the great advice all. Wrapped the exposed wires with electrical tape and then wrapped them them up tight with Scotch rubber splicing tape. Problem solved.

A few coats of liquid tape on the bare spots then wrapped with vinyl or electrical tape works well.Seals the wiring from moisture/contamination.If wiring is broken use dual layer heat shrink after soldering,then wrap exterior.30 years plus doing automotive electrical repair

Was surprised when I noticed the initial damage. Why run a bundle of wires so close to the drive belt?

I woulda used some liquid electrical tape.. you can save $$$ & get more by buying PLasti-Dip,, about $5.00 at Harbor freight.. Paint some O that stuff on it,,then wrap it with tape, then tie wrap it so it stays away from that belt. Study the routing, can you change it?

Should be real easy to reroute and secure in place with a few zip ties. Just seemed like an odd location to run a wire harness.

Pop the front pulley cover off and you will see the channel that harness lives in... Somebody was lazy during assembly, either at the factory, the dealership, or a previous owner if purchased used.
