Title: Front turn signal wires
Post by Skitzer on 11/01/13 at 14:55:09

Well I don't have a Clymer so I can't look it up. I think I know the answer but need assurance from the experts here.

I just opened up my front headlight for 2 reasons, first I'm going to paint the shell black and second, to verify the wiring to the turn signals. I see that there are 3 wires to the turn signals. My new signal lamps have only 2. I'm guessing that the 3rd is for the indicator above the speedo. Is that correct? If not what am I missing here.
Thank you all in advance.

The stock front signals are 2 filament bulbs,... one high watt for turn, and a lower watt for running light...
If you are switching to a single filament, just ignore the the wire with constant voltage...

Thank you, (that makes more sense than my guess).
You wouldn't happen to know which wire, (color),  is the constant voltage would you?
No biggie, I can probably figure it out.
Thanks again man.

The turn signal wires are mint green and solid black....the grounds are black with a white tracer.  The running lights are either gray or brown.

It is always a good idea to go to the Technical Section of this forum and see if what you need is in there.  There is a Table of Contents with links, and you can find the wiring diagrams under the electrical section.

If you don't have a volt/ohm meter here is a simple way to check which wire is the one with constant voltage. Turn the lights on and unplug one of the wires to the turn signal...if the running light goes out that's the wire with the constant voltage...if not it's the other wire. If you have three wires one might be a ground wire...all the ones I've taken apart so far have two wires.
