Title: spark plug wire removal
Post by Super Thumper on 10/24/13 at 10:24:21

I have my ignition coil in hand and want to replace the plug wire but can't seem to get the wire out of the coil without damaging the coil. Has anyone done this?

I do believe it's a one piece unit...  :-?...

Yep...mostly what Serowbot said.

I believe they hook up all the internal stuff, including the wires....then they mold the plastic case around all the parts.  The spark plug wire may well be stuck in place.

My old Honda Z50 coils have a hole for the wire that has a screw in the bottom - and the wire was coated with epoxy and then screwed into place.  With a little work you can get the old wire out and then epoxy a replacement wire in place.......it is a long shot that the LS650 coil might be done the same way.

Either that or you can cut your HT wire near the coil (if it is in good condition there) and usu one of these connectors with your new wire:

Since the coil only fires one plug, they just built it 2gether

This what I plan to do for a better spark on my Savage:

Nology HotWires:

Ignition cable splicer:

Never even Heard of sucha critter! Looks promising, Do it To IT & let us know how it goes.
Can you get some timed runs in before & after?

The splice may just take away anything that new wire would add...
Connections always weaken flow...

Besides,.. The Thunder wire sounds a bit questionable to me from the get-go... (like Monster speaker cables, but for a spark plug)...
JMHO...

I won't be riding it until next spring....I am recuperating from back surgery now but I will post results when I get it done and take it for a test ride next spring.

I think it sounds like snake oil.  You only need "x" amount of spark to light off the fuel charge.  A stock wire and a properly gapped spark plug already do that.

Hey, this has been discussed before.  Look what I found when Googling on the subject.
