Not often BikeExif has a bike on that I'd actually take for a spin. This is one of those rare exceptions.

And somebody needs to track down the head covers, so much nicer than the chromed crap that the new engines have.

It's a 400cc for the Japanese market?  Is our 650 just a bored-out version of the same engine?

Definitely a cool custom.

The 400cc version ihas a shorter stroke, smaller bore, and the wrist pin is smaller.  Some countries tax vehicles based on engine size and the 400cc bike is more marketable than the 650.  I am not sure if there are any countries where both sizes are available.

Those head covers are really nice looking.  I wonder if they are custom or if they are stock on the 400cc engine.

whole heartedly agree

But they're still window dressin', would like to have the fins as a functional part of the head cover.

Yes, everything is correct. on this bike engine from the baby Savage 400 ( piston less and stroke is also less), and in the main engines are almost the same. if you guys like the cover, and you can buy them, then there is no difficulty to install them on 650 engine.

I dunno..... 2" of front fork travel?  Flat track is all it would be good for, and with those tires, hard packed dirt track.

And I can't even find them from any of the big parts houses in Europe, let alone the USA... So somebody in the Pacific Rim needs to track down one complete set and ship it to me so I can get a set of molds popped and have a few cast locally.

Several bikes including the1980 RM400 have the same diameter fork tubes......he needs to do a "forkectemy" and get some travel.
