Title: Got internet back at house...
Post by Yonuh Adisi FSO on 10/07/13 at 12:37:37

...so I can show up a little more often now. Until I go back to Nevada in the spring anyway.

But I have not been idle while wintering here in New Mexico. I have been building stuff for my off-grid Nevada property. So far I have built a new wind turbine, a solar module, and a table saw to use to help built my house up there.

There is still quite a few more things I need to take care of but I am getting it done as time and money permits.

My Solar Module. (my first one)

I will be building more modules to hook up to this one in series so I can produce the voltage needed to charge a 12 volt battery bank.

My Table Saw

I have since installed a receptacle cover over the receptacle and put a single piece of plexiglass over the top instead of it being pieced together. I have also stiffened up the legs for more stability. It works rather well. One of these days I do plan on buying one when I can afford it, but for now this does the job.

I haven't made a video of the new wind turbine yet, but I will soon as soon as I can finish the axial flux alternator I'm building for it.

I like home made solutions.

Checkout a biogas generator, a lot more efficient than solar. Been thinking about building one myself.

Yonuh, welcome back and nice to see your keeping
busy preparing for your Nevada residence.
I have in the past, lived off the grid.
Had solar panels, not self built though.
Also had a water turbine on the creek.
One solar panel was home made and it was used
to heat water. It actually worked pretty good.
Also before the solar panels and the water turbine
was installed, 6 years in fact, I used kerosene lamps
and had a generator.
Continued success to you on your building and relocating.
Nice to hear from you.. :) kim

I do plan on building a biomass gasifier eventually. I have been researching it and it does seem to be pretty interesting. I have already downloaded the plans on how to build one.

I would love to have a water turbine unfortunately there are no running water creeks or rivers on or near us. So I will have to stick with wind and solar. Luckily the wind is actually pretty constant most of the time and there is plenty of sun. We are rather remote so there is no wind breaks to disrupt wind flow to the turbine.

I will eventually be building a biomass gasifier to run a generator for the shop I plan to build so I can run power equipment. But until then I will just have to mostly use hand tools. No big deal though, man has used non-powered tools for centuries before the advent of controlled electricity.

The only on-grid thing we will end up having will be satilite internet and t.v. once we get everything situated and our power sources all worked out.

Welcome back!  I love the homemade table saw.  Serves the purpose, and that's what counts.  My hubby bought me a table saw for my birthday in July and I thought I'd never use it, but found that I use it for so much, I'm not sure what I did before it.  Your rip fence gives me ideas too, as mine is only about an inch wide and I have to be so careful about lining it up straight.  Yours pretty much straightens itself!  I bet you could swap out the circular saw with a jig saw too... I'm just thinking if you needed a cut deeper than the circular saw would do?  Otherwise, great job!!

As far as your cheapo wally world camera, picture is fine, but it would help if you would speak a little louder when you are not holding the camera.

Could you dig a pond on your land... or would it just be a dry hole in the ground?

I could dig a pond Piglet, but it would take a backhoe to do it because the hardpan is so close to the surface, then I would need to have a tanker bring in the water otherwise yes, it would just be a dry hole in the ground.

I agree that I need to speak louder with this camera when I am not holding it. The next videos I make I will be sure to do that. :) :)
