Is there an external oil cooler that can be use on these bikes? If so, what is the make and has any one used it?

For the most part, unless you're going superslab speeds or stuck in traffic for an extended period... you don't need it.

If you're worried about it, use synthetic oils.

Another thing to consider, is that all proper cooler installations include a thermostat to control flow around or through the cooler....depending on the need. You don't want your oil passing through a cooler when it is 20 degrees outside. Also the cooler will add some restriction of flow when the oil is cold.....which could be a bad thing at lower rpms where the oil pressure is very low.

The only real advantage with my setup so far is an increase in the amount of oil in the engine, the cooler acts as an extra sump. At superslab speeds the engine is already air cooled enought. When you get into traffic the engine heats up along with the cooler because of no air flow. To get proper use of an oil cooler you would need a cooling fan along with whatever controls it would need to operate. I don't know what power requirments a fan would have but the electrical system on a Savage is pretty wimpy at an idle where you would need a fan the most. Just my take on it but it was a fun project.

As a fan you can use the fan from an old computer PSU, 100mm-120mm, usually 12V and very low consumption. I use them for many things, and they are build to last long.
