Title: Crankcase for 2007 S40 different from 2002?? Help.
Post by CyclesPlus on 10/04/13 at 09:29:37

I am a new member and motorcycle dealer (mostly used). I have a 2007 S40 with a hole in front of the crankcase. I can get the case (or entire engine) from a 2002 650 Savage. The engine in the pictures looks the same but when I went on a parts fiche the part numbers for the crank case are different. Did the engines change in 2005 when the  650 savage was renamed the S40 boulevard did anything on the engine change??? Thanks in advance for anyones help.

The part number for a 2007 crankcase is 11302-24852. The part number for a 2002 crankcase is 11302-24850

Numbers may be different, but parts are the same. The only change I know of was going from 4 to 5 speed & paint schemes,
They changed how thestarter works by putting a gizmo in that protects the gears from being busted if the engine kicks back on shutdown, but I think that stuff can be added to engines that came out w/o it,, so the case is the same.
Before you take just my word, wait on confirmation from someone like Verslagen or Old Feller or anyone else who
Number A  : Has a memory
Number B : Has been inside the cases,,

As far as I know, there's no difference between the '07 and the '02 cept maybe color.

I would hazard a guess that the cases are machined as a matched pair.
And I would prefer to buy them that way.  All-in-all, I'd prefer to buy the engine whole and part out the holed engine.   8-)
