Title: What is that
Post by rl153 on 10/02/13 at 16:02:29

There is a 12mm nut on a stud on the top part of the cavity in the front of the motor ,that was leaking oil on my bike. What exactly does that stud or bolt do ? I understand it is screwed into the amuminum head. Thanks!

There are 4 longs studs that go all the way from the crankcase to the cylinder head that hold the head and cylinder and cylinder head down to the crankcase.  They are spread a bit unequally to the sides to allow room for the intake and exhaust ports.  In order to apply even pressure to the gasket at the head and cylinder mating surface.....Suzuki added a short threaded stud in the front and back.  You can find the one in the back that matches the front one if you look.  You should keep these tightened down, as occasionally one will come loose and weep oil.

& at 20,014 miles, never retorqued the head, never an oil  leak "Up There".. it leaked where the clutch actuator passes thru the case.. a 10 cent O ring fixed that
