Title: Progress/gasket compound Post by SimeonC on 09/29/13 at 19:27:39 Making slow and steady progress.... question... being that the gaskets at the very top of the cylinder head and at the center of the crankcase are made of that liquid gasket compound does anyone have a favored replacement or a recommended compound product (preferably better) to replace the OEM gasket compound??? Because I will have to replace it. ;D |

Nothin' simple about cleaning, gluing, and removing sealer instead of using a factory paper gasket. On the clutch cover you have to be careful not to get sealer in the oil passages that are cast into the gasket suface.....and if a piece of it breaks off and clogs up the oil pressure passages to the head.....that would definintely not be good! |

Or is sealant already applied to these areas on a paper gasket? Im going to tear down to extend the cam tensioner, bore the cylinder, and port the head, just want to have everything ready for the rebuild... I suppose my quesiton really is, regardless if using a premade gasket or not, are these products good for anywhere... |

SO, speaking of gaskets, I'll be taking the clutch cover off to check out my chain tensioner. Do I need to put any sealant on the paper gasket or just stick it in place and bolt it down? Title: Re: Progress/gasket compound Post by verslagen1 on 11/26/13 at 14:05:51 Unless the gasket is torn, there is no need to apply rtv to it. In fact, apply a light smear of grease to one side to make it easier to remove in the future. We haven't had any reported issues with leakage with this. |
