Title: Front Brake light switch
Post by Coaxial on 09/29/13 at 14:13:26

Hey Guys,

I am having trouble with my brake lights. The front brake switch isnt turning the brake light on. Everything looks to be in order though.

What would your steps be to check and fix this issue?

Id either use a test lite or an ohm meter. Look for power to the switch, look for power thru it,

Mine just went out too. Check the voltage through the wires, if you pulled that kill switch off your bars then you probably may have yanked that cord. If not and the wires work then replace the switch

Look at the two spade connectors next to the brake lever.  Disconnect them and look for corrosion.  Check the wires for fraying or exposed copper.  Use a multimeter, testlight, or ohm meter to look for a change in resistance when the brake is applied.  If you don't see a change or the resistance is high, there is a problem with your switch.  Reinstall the connectors and make sure they are seated all the way.  Check your brake light, see if it works then.  If not, you'll have to shoot some more wires.

Remove the screws from the gray cover under the lever that the wires run to. Be careful bacause the switch portion is spring loaded. Take some fine grit sandpaper and clean off the corrosion on the switch nub as well as the part it rides on in the switch lever portion. Put it all back together then adjust it so it makes contact with a bit of lever pressure.
