I wasn't sure where to put this. Really just wanted to share some links.

I have not tried these. And yes I have been reading all I can on using car tires. I read the darksider threads and looked at some stuff on the internet. I'm still on the fence about it, but really want to try it whenever the time comes.

Again, just wanted to share these that I found on Coker website. Anybody else find any usable tires for stock rim that are thinner like the old choppers with some retro styled tread? e.g.:

I am familiar with the Coker Tire Company being a supplier for the vintage car hobby. I would be a bit careful about using these tires for interstate speeds......you need to check their speed rating and make sure they are capable of holding up. The photo of the Coker tire you provided is on a Model A Ford rim.....and 45 mph is a nice cruise speed for that car.

Thanks Dave, I will definitely be doing a LOT more research before I do this. Just in the browsing and searching and pondering stage still.

At $145 a tire, the Coker tread pattern may look cool but it fails the Darksider main equation which is finding a car tire that will fit on the back of your bike, last a lot longer and be significantly cheaper than a motorcycle tire.

Plus, listen to Dave -- that tire may be intended for a 45 mph top speed Model T Ford for all you know.

For $100 plus dollars, a Metzler Me880 H series tire makes better sense than a Coker, even to an old darksider person like me.

I run those Indian made Excelsiors on my 1930 Whippet. They are ok, but I would have reservations about using them on a bike. Particularly like an S40 given it's propensity for locking the rear wheel under heavy braking.

k. I will have to take that one off the list then. Thanks for the advice guys. I've been reading that a 135 15 VW tire is a good fit. I found one on google search: http://www.kustom1warehouse.net/Stock_style_tires_for_VW_Volkswagen_p/streettires.htm but I'm having trouble finding more info on that particular tire. The 135 in the photo looks pretty rad, tho! and then I keep reading Nankang, but I don't care for the tread pattern as much.

I guess I should really just ask "does anyone use a thin car tire on their bike?" I saw some people using 195's. Thats insane. of course, it was on a goldwing ;D

Let me check my barn, have all kinds of oddball tires out there. Even 4 that are mounted on the Empi mags my Super Beetle wears... It might have a decent spare in the well... But it is most likely from 1972...
