Title: The Suzuki Savage IS TOP QUALITY
Post by Suzukisavvy on 09/27/13 at 07:42:49

I recently drove a Suzuki savage and now i am a owner of one (im 15) and it is the best bike ever! And no im not just saying this because its my first bike, its my second bike, and this bike is 100x better then my starter bike! The savage has such low end torque and the slitest twist of the trottle when you are starting out, you go! The 50ft lbs of torque is more than enough to give you the ride of your life! The single cylinder is a true thumper and no doubt that this bike is the highest quality motorcycle out on the market!

My girlfriend and i also just started riding this year she chose a honda shadow she is also almost 6 feet tall i on the other hand am 5'4" and after carefully checking out bikes and a recomendation from a Trama's instructor that i had i found an S40 and bought it from someone on the boards here We have gone about 1000 miles this summer and had great times. I did put a Corbin seat on it and that made a big difference in comfort and with the help of this group i changed the battery and air clearner( my first atempt at motorcye maintainance). And hope to be riding for along time to come
Thanks Guys

I resemble that remark! Who else on the board would dare to replace the stock front wheel from 1998 with one from the early 1970s... with a drum brake...  ::)

Welcome and glad you found our little bike and little site. You can learn a lot about your bike and save a ton of money on here. I have had my bike since I was 18 (ten years now) and plan to keep it forever.

Glad to have you here.  It is a great bike and LOTS of fun to ride.

There are a few (very few) shortcomings with the bike.  They are all detailed here.  Look in the tech section it tells you what to look for and what to do about it.  Pretty much everything you could want to know about your bike is on here.

Enjoy your new ride and BE CAREFUL!  Nobody on the street is looking out for you but you.

I had a friend who witnessed an old gray haired woman pull leftacross a bikes path. He was telling  me about it,, He got to the scene & waited for the cops, so he could see how it was handled,., This guy was always calm, never raised his voice, but when he was telling me about how this went, he shook with anger. He had nothing but contempt for that woman & he mocked her voice

In a shrill but weak voice he imitated her

Its not my fault,, I just didnt SEE him,,

I dont remember how the rider came out,, but he must have been pretty bad or my friend wouldnt have been so riled.,.
IIRC, the cop was real easy on her,, hey,, why not? She didnt do it on purpose..

She didnt SEE him.,.,
Maybe she wasnt lookin,,

LOTS to know that will help ya stay safe.,

Beware if youre first in a long line or last.
Think about whyl.,

I note that you are fifteen, was your starter bike a dirt/trail bike or a road bike? Have you taken an American MSF course? Remember that the Savage/S40 is Suzuki's entry level cruiser and some on this forum don't have a particularly high opinion of Suzuki's quality control. Having said that may you survive to enjoy many years of Savage/S40 riding. You have three friends in motorcycling. Your two mirrors and the big gap in front of you. Most other humans, animals and objects are potential, if not real enemies.

I have had this bike about 9 months now and although I learned to ride when I was about 12 this is the first bike I have owned. I had it for about 4 months before I decided it wasn't enough to keep up with my riding buddies who had a triumph street triple, a can am spyder and a ninja 650 so I bought a Yamaha FZ6R which I love. But I still cant get myself to part with my S40. Its great for taking the wife or kid on rides. The things I really hate are the NO gas gauge, or tac, or any gauges at all really, and the pop I get everytime I turn it off. Other than that its a great entry level bike and SO easy to handle.

No disrespect intended, but you will probably learn a little more by taking the course. When I returned to motorcycling after a twenty seven year absence, I took a refresher course which made life a lot easier.

The LS650 is a great bike.  I had one before but had to sell it and another after having a couple of strokes in 2009.  I'm back on the road again and ride a Vulcan 2000.  But I was just telling buddies over on a Mean Streak forum how awesome the LS650 is with a few simple mods that most riders do to set their bike up to their own individual tastes.  I've probably had more fun zipping stoplight to stoplight on one than any other bike.

Pay scrupulous attention to the tech on this forum, don't trust a dealer as far as you could throw his building, and you'll do alright. For a bargain basement throw away, it is a pretty decent little bike. It has several well known and easily remedied design flaws, but on the whole, other than way too much chrome, no kicker, CV carburetor and an electronic ignition it is a quite decent platform. Make it yours, make it fit you properly, wear it out, and repeat. The old forum regularly saw them top 100K miles w/o major issues.

I saw one in a Wal Fart parking lot with around 92,000 miles,., It had ONE major issue,, It Was FUGLY.. LOoked like it had been parked outside its whole life..

Suzukisavvy, hop over to the Café section and put your age in the how old are you poll, and tell Stones you aren't cheating. Doing this will somewhat lower the average age of Savage/S40 riders.

I'm in the same boat! After doing a little on-line research, and compulsively taking one for a test drive I was sold. The second I popped it into gear and twisted the throttle I was sold. It was like getting on an amusement park ride. Could not stop smiling.
