I'm running into a few problems that I need some help in and would like to see if there is someone who had worked on these bikes that I can talk to over the phone or in person if possible. I've researched some of the common problems y'all are talking about and I'm worried that if I pull that valve cover and cylinder head off that I will end up messing up the bike with the timing.

If you are talking about the oil plug in the top end it's just a cover removal. You will not be able to mess up the timing doing that. You can PM me if you want to get my cell number. I'm in Greensboro and just did my oil plug replacement recently.
