Title: Reserve capacity with Raptor petcock? Post by DavidOfMA on 09/18/13 at 06:42:48 What's the capacity of the Reserve part of the tank with the Raptor installed? Was out in the middle of nowhere during a long ride and went 120 miles before I found an open gas station. I was surprised that I hadn't gone onto Reserve. Was surprised again when the bike took 2.275 gallons. Thanks, David |

It's amazing how many parts of even crowded states like Massachusetts and New York have no gas stations within 30-40 miles of any particular place. |

On a stock bike with a stock petcock, you would be very close to reserve. Just as an aside, I once put 11.3 litres into a stock tank, but that was really cramming it. |

Post by maxtowers on 09/29/13 at 15:21:58 In the seven months that 'm riding my Savage the most gas that i poured in the tank was 10.42Lt (2.75 gallons); i remember a really scary ride on a way with no signs of gas stations in the middle of the night in a place where i' ve never been... doesn't get any better... Anyway, i agree about the petcock reserve, it's about 2.2Lt or 0.60oz; i usually refill as soon as i get in reserve and i put around an average 9,5Lt (2.5 gal) of gas... |

I have been putting about 2.1-2.2 in each time, filling to about the 'ring' around the lower inside of the fill neck. Should I be jamming more in there? Thanks! |

If you do this you will get a slight weepage for a while and if you are using gas with ethanol in it you may get paint problems. So unless you intend travelling over 120 miles at a hit stick to your current level. |

With either Pet... the reserve capacity will change if you have a /90 tire, or oversize or chopped shock,... or lowered front end... The more the slope of the tank,...the smaller the reserve capacity will be... because the pet attaches toward the rear of tank... A Raptor does have a shorter main pick-up tube... so, it will be a smaller reserve in any case....(if you wanted to change that, you could easily add a bit of hose to the main pick-up tube)... Bugga'.... :-?... |
