Title: Seat bolts
Post by terpfan1980 on 09/15/13 at 19:50:44

As noted in the thread about the sprocket (engine pulley) cover, I wound up losing a bolt for the rider's seat while working on my bike this afternoon.  Darned bolt felt down into the mechanical area and was apparently lost forever, though I'd about swear that it fell into the belt area and was probably thrown into places it shouldn't have been before falling out as I took the bike out on the road after.

The bike is running properly, but it'll get a more thorough inspection during daylight hours to see a bit more of what happened to the belt (if anything), and to confirm that the newly mounted saddle bag supports aren't rubbing the tire in any way (man, there's not much clearance for those, and the bolts were, as someone had warned me, in an area that is a pain to get to...)

Anyway, the question now is what bolt would I need to replace the lost bolt with.  Much appreciated for any tips in this area.

Bolt out of a junk motorcycle battery should work fine. Just use a small flat washer with it to spread the load a bit.

Or go spend less than a buck at Home Depot for a pair of M6x12 bolts. They are in little plastic bags in the hardware section drawers. Anything from M6 3/8" to 1/2" long will work. Had to buy new tank rear bracket bolts yesterday, M6x1", pretty sure they were all of 43 cents each. Bike Bandit or Suzuki will ding you $1.67 per seat bolt, and then get you again on shipping.
