So I just replaced my factory petcock with the raptor one, and I'm getting no power after 1st gear, I know I gotta rejet my carb but I don't feel like playing a guessing game and taking it apart and putting it back together ten times, anybody have a similar problem and know what size jets I should grab?

If all you did was replace the petcock you don't need to re-jet, it sounds like you have something blocking fuel flow to the crab. Check the fuel hose for and bends or kinks, it could also be trash in the fuel tank that has clogged the filter. Did you remember to block the port on the carb. that was connected to the old petcock?

Yeah I blocked it, I'm just gonna clean the carb again maybe I missed something, it was running fine for a while but the backfiring was getting bad and i cleaned the carb and it ran worse so I switched petcocks, and now there's still a gas/air issue. I guess I must have missed something in the carb. We'll see

Yes that was the first thing I did, I've got the carb off now and I'm gonna clean it once more just to make sure that's not the problem. I have a feeling it is.

I was a bomb loader at Kadena AFB from 79' to 81' on F4's, covered the transition from F4's at Holloman to F15's from 81' to 82'.

So I cleaned the carb and put it back on and its no different. Was there any sort of modification I should have made to the petcock before I put it in? Everyone I talk to tells me to rejet my carb but I don't wanna do that if that's not the problem. It sounds good in 1st gear and it idles great, but i can't get it over 50 and mopeds are taking off on me, its humiliating.

You need to show/tell us what you have done to the bike. Is it stock? Did you change the air cleaner to a clamp on? Did the bike run normal before you changed the petcock?

I was a bomb loader at George AFB on Wild Weasle F-4 E's and G's from 81 to 85.

Sleaz,... you're right to leave the jetting alone...
If it was running right before,.. the new petcock, won't change anything...
Messing with jetting will just confuse the issue...

If you've blocked the intake tap on the carb... you are done thinking about the pet... It isn't the problem...

It sounds to me like somethings amiss in the main circuit of the carb...
When you cleaned it,... maybe you left the spring out of the needle slide?...

Sorry if I'm hard to follow but I'm not great with this whole smartphone thing. The bike is completely stock, the only thing I changed was the petcock but I switched back to the old one to see if my problem would go away, and it didn't. So I'm back to a completely stock bike besides the raptor. Before I changed anything the bike ran okay besides backfiring constantly, always got me home though. I cleaned the carb in hopes that the backfiring would go away but that didn't work, that's why I bought the petcock. I cleaned the carb once more to be sure, and changed the petcock to the raptor and that's when my serious problem started. Switching back didn't help so I know its not the petcock, I'm sure I put the carb back together correctly but I guess ill tear it apart one more time.

I changed the spark plug and spark plug boot and got most of my power back, its still a bit of a bumpy ride in the 2nd/3rd gear zone, once I get it to fifty its smooth up to 70 but then its a little jumpy. Its running better but there's still something sketchy going on.
